Short Bowel Syndrome


Short bowel syndrome is a malabsorption disorder caused by the surgical removal of the small intestine. Occassionally it can be caused by the complete dysfunction of a large segment of the bodies bowel.

Although some children are born with a congenital short bowel, most cases of SBS are acquired in life and it usually does not occur unless someone has lost two thirds or more of their small intestine.
