Rectum Information

The rectum is part of the large intestine which connects the anus to the sigmoid colon part of the large intestine. It's approximately 12cm in length. It acts as a temporary storage cabinet for stool before it is defecated into the toilet. Once the rectum starts to fill up and the walls of the rectum expand, they stimulate the nerves in that area which gives the person the feeling of the need to defecate.
