Diarrhea - named from the greek word diarrhoia
which means "a flowing through"
- is a word most of us know and understand. It refers to the abrupt passing, and abnormally high fluid content of, stool, with more regular visits to the bathroom required than normal.
The condition can range from mild to severe. At its worst, diarrhoea can be fatal due its #1 complication - dehydration. It is caused by "an imbalance in the physiology of the small and large intestinal processes involved in the absorption of ions, organic substrates, and thus water."
