By accessing Ostomyland (hereinafter we, us, our, Ostomyland, Ostomyland.com, the "board", "message board", "forums"), you agree to be legally bound by the following terms on this entire page. If you do not agree to be legally bound by all of the following terms then please do not access and/or use Ostomyland. We may change these at any time and we’ll do our utmost in informing you via announcement postings on the message board itself, though it would be prudent to review this regularly yourself as your continued usage of Ostomyland after changes mean you are agreeing to be legally bound by these terms as they are updated and/or amended.

You agree that we are not responsible for any messages posted. We do not vouch for or warrant the accuracy, completeness or usefulness of any message, and are not responsible for the contents of any message. The messages express the views of the author of the message, not necessarily the views of this bulletin board. Any user who feels that a posted message is objectionable is encouraged to contact us immediately by email. We have the ability to remove objectionable messages and we will make every effort to do so, within a reasonable time frame, if we determine that removal is necessary.

You agree not to post any abusive, obscene, vulgar, slanderous, hateful, threatening, sexually-oriented material, or anything that may violate any applicable laws. This includes the posting of material that may be generally offensive to, or "flaming" of, users or management of the board. Doing so may lead to you being immediately and permanently banned (and your service provider being informed). The IP address of all posts is recorded to aid in enforcing these conditions. You agree not to post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or by this bulletin board.

Please especially refrain from using any swearing on the board, including *’d-out replacements. Please keep smut off the board. If what you have to say cannot be said without swearing or smut then please do not post it. If you think that something may be inappropriate then please do not post it.

You agree that the webmaster, administrator and moderators of this forum have the right to remove, edit, move or close any topic at any time should they see fit, and without asking the permission of the original poster first. Neither do they have to give a reason for editing or closing the post/thread-topic in question. As a user you agree to any information you have entered within your account profile being stored in a database. While this information will not be disclosed to any third party without your consent the webmaster, administrator and moderators cannot be held responsible for any hacking attempt that may lead to the data being compromised.

You agree that all content posted on this forum is granted to Ostomyland with perpetual electronic publishing rights and your user-submitted content becomes a part of the community, even if the day comes where you no longer wish to be identified with us. You agree and accept that, in the event of your wishing to be no longer identified with the community that we will gladly "close" your account, and remove any identifying material from within your account signature, and account profile page, and replace your user/display-name with a randomly numbered guest name - ie "Guest_013". You also agree and accept that all your contributions to our community, such as posts, calendar entries etc will remain on the board to prevent a negative forum viewing experience (“swiss cheese effect”) for our community. Blogs or photo albums created by the member may be removed in their entirety at the discretion of the Webmaster/Forum-Administrators.

Advertising Policy

Advertising from companies, within posts on this board is now sadly STRICTLY prohibited, and this includes both direct advertising posts, placing company details and/or promotions in signatures etc or indirect (backdoor) marketing in posts (ie creating a post with a question to give an answer that promotes your product.) We have a zero tolerance policy on companies advertising on this board and all advertising posts from companies or their reps will be removed on sight, and if the user persists their account will be removed from the board and IP number banned.

This rule also extends to anyone with Ostomy-Related home-made products to sell, or intending to use Ostomyland to obtain research information for their products, or studies. We believe Ostomyland should be a safe-haven for all Ostomates to get unbias advice and support at all times, especially when they are new Ostomates. We feel they should be able to seek their support without any potential opportunity to be taken advantage of, or being used as guinea pigs. And we hope you agree with that policy. Members can of course recommend services or products freely, or make replies to posts pointing people to companies who offer the services they have asked about as that is an unbias recommendation.

Reputation Points:

This forum has an integrated "reputation" points system, which is a numerical score associated with every member account that totals the number of times the likethis-75percent.png button has been clicked on the member's forum posts and/or replies, or their blog posts and/or replies. Ostomyland aims to use this to reflect the quality and appreciation of that member's ostomy support. Therefore when possible we will only have the "like" button active in support forums and not in off-topic forums, and in the blogs.

We respectfully ask that when joining this board you will use the reputation system in the same spirit, and will not award frivolous reputation points to your forum buddies in an attempt to jump the rankings. Any member(s) who try to organise a like-exchange between friends ("You click mine, if I click yours!"), or via the creation of fake accounts, or any other deceptive method will have their points deducted and likely be excluded from giving and/or receiving reputation points in the future. In worse case scenarios it could even lead to suspension or expulsion from the board. The same goes for any member who repeatedly gives out repeatedly frivolous reputation. We thank you for your understanding in this and hope you share our vision for our member's reputation score to actually have a meaning, and to be something they can be proud of, rather than just being a hug-o-meter like on most other community forums.

NB: The Facebook Like button which is present on many parts of this site does not affect the reputation scores so it can be clicked as many times as desired.

Content & Medical Disclaimer

Please remember that all posts made on the message board are the responisiblity of the individual member whom posts them. Ostomyland is not responsible for any material contained on the board, and the thoughts and opinions expressed are those of the individual poster and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of the Ostomyland Admins.

Please also remember, that unless someone has stated otherwise, the posters have no medical training, and are posting their Ostomy Advice based solely on their own experiences as either an Ostomate themselves, or the partner, friend or relative of one. Therefore, it is your responsibility to check the accuracy of all the information contained without any support-based postings, and you should always check the advice given with your own medical team or Surgeon or Stoma/ET Nurse before acting on them, as they have your medical notes to hand and know your medical history. The poster will not know this and will only be able to give generalised advice, and just because it was good for them does not necessarily mean it is good for you.
