  2. Use of Stomapaste

Hi Barry, I'm not experienced in what you are going through but I hope things are well for you? In the videos your watching have you tried doing things their way and most importantly did they work better for your? Have you told the nurses about your experience? Did they explain why you should do it with the paste?
  3. Hi AV,

  8. Oh my goodness, Sorry to be here so late in the game? How are you doing? Was it a blockage? Did you go to hospital?
  9. Love the ALP Global Sure Seal Rings, I don't leave home without them!
  10. Illiostomy hell

Hey Carol, Just wanted to note that some folks use a hair dryer to add some heat to their appliance to help it adhere. Low setting of course and move the dryer about, don't leave it on one spot long b/c it could become to warm and that wouldn't be good.
  11. I want my six-pack back

This is the only exercises I've found to help strengthen our bellies: http://www.stomaatje.com/belly_exercise.html
  12. Closed ostomy pouches

Hi Queensgirl, I agree with rinsing the pouch out, I use a water bottle for awhile, then recycle it as needed. Sometimes I add a very small drop of soap when things don't flush out on it's own. I have also used hydrogen peroxide too. As far as drainable pouches I use to use the ones with the clips, ugh, i would sometimes accidentally drop the clip in the toilet and then if I didn't have a spare I was in trouble. I use the ones with a velcro closure.Coloplast makes them.  It is a two piece system as I can change the pouch as needed and still keep  the flange on if all is well. The first fold has no velcro but the second has a big strip and two overlaping side closures that have never come away. If that wasn't enough then you can tuck it all into the soft covering on the pouch too,When your draining you can secure the flap to the back of the opening so it doesn't get in the way. If you call or go to a manufacturers website you can get free samples to try out and see what you think. Placing some toilet tissue in the bowl is a great idea to keep the splashing down to minimum,  and don't use the whole bottle of water in one shot, pour some in and rub your pouch sides to help the water work the mess out. Once it is empty use a wipe to clean the opening then dry it and fold it all back up. Best of luck and keep asking questions!
  13. I feel unwanted

Hello to all the new members! Welcome to O'land!!! Andy is right, the beginning is the toughest and it does take some learning and the right equipment but one day you will look back and not be as hard on yourself. We didn't make it this far to give up and yes, it can be very frustrating but you just have to keep reading the wonderful information on the forum and keep trying to find what works for you. Yes, keep asking questions and speaking out about what you feel you need to know. Remember, it's just a bag, we are still the same person we were before this appliance became our normal. About seven years passed for me before I even found this sight and I have learned much from the information others have shared. You can learn more about different products by going to the manufacturers website and sign up for samples that they will gladly send you.
  14. Hi dnworkman, My doctors must sign a release every time I place an order, I don't get it either. It's not like we can just stop using our supplies or that our colons are going to magically regrow!
  15. I feel unwanted

Oh I'm sure this is a double post as I have replied a few minutes ago.
  16. Hi

Hi Jeff, Nice to meet you. I've had my colostomy since 05. What type of ostomy do you have? Is it permanent or temporary?
  17. Stoma folliculitus healing

Hello mr_bobby_k, Sorry no one was able to answer your post as it was in the announcement section. I had to alert the owner so he could move your post and folks could reply. So it's been more than a month since you posted, are you still having this issue? Did you go to see your doctor? I sure hope so. Maybe you will stop back in and update us on your situation soon.
  18. I feel unwanted

Hi Ricky, What do you have???? Why do you think it makes you feel this way. You are still you no matter what is going on with your physical body.
  19. Stoma Failure

Hello lovemydad, I'm sorry to hear that the doctor is uncertain and I agree with JunBug23 on her advice of a second opinion. I don't get how the doctor is uncertain, after all they are the ones who have the knowledge and resources. This site has a facebook page where more than likely more folks visit. Maybe you could post there as well to get more views and hopefully some ideas.
  20. showering with ostomy bag

Hi Lori K, Here is a link I found searching the net http://ostomybagholder.com/ostomy-shower-covers/ This might just be what your looking for, but I surely do use and like the sure seal rings laurence mentioned. They are more for what he described than protecting the bag itself from getting wet.
  21. HI Andy, to the forum! I have done a quick search on prolapsing stomas and I think your correct in thinking it can have something to do with lack of stomach muscles. Here is a link to what I read: http://www.allaboutbowelsurgery.com/clinical/prolapsed.asp
  22. Swallowed Gum

Well seems the stick of gum wasn't a problem, that's good news! Glad to see you stopping in. I haven't been on much since the new set up but it's getting easier once I get reading.
  23. Illiostomy hell

Hi Mike and welcome to the forum. Sounds like Clare and Laurence are giving you great advice. As far as bags go how about calling the manufactures and asking them to send you some samples. They are great to try and see if one will work better. I've also heard of a stoma collar that I'm calling about this week with my new order to see if it helps with leaks. I don't get them to often but it's a product that interest me so maybe it will be something I would like. Best wishes.
  24. Charlene is off to college!

Aww, what a lovely young woman she has become.
  25. Resurrection Day

Hi Betty, Thank you for your kind words. If I can help you with any information about living with a colostomy just let me know. You will find a great amount of information here on the forum. Best to you and I will say a prayer that our Lord will give you strength.
