Hypnosis

I was talking with my psychologist this morning and telling her that I was getting the feeling like I was going to have a b.m or pass gas through the rectum. She said this is like phantom pain, and she's going to talk with some of her colleagues to see if hypnosis could possibly break the brain to rectum cycle. I know I'm a good candidate for hypnosis, and I sure hope it works.

I had this problem right after my surgery and it lasted for months. It finally went away, only to return after my bout of C-Diff. Now it's driving me nuts.

I dont know about hypnosis Lois.

I think that Phantom pains with missing limbs and the such, take time to subside. Perhaps a medical person would be better to talk to, are you sure its just "phantom pain". :)

My psychologist said that the nerves in the rectum are still active, even though nothing is going on. What she is suggesting is that hypnosis might just break the link between the brain and those nerve endings. She's going to check into it for me.

I agree with you, Nic. Before I go ahead with hypnosis, I'll make sure it's nothing more than phantom urges.

I was so interested to see your blog. I have this problem all the time. I have had an ileostomy for 1 1/2 yrs (loop). I do have the pressure/urge and sometimes I cant control it and its sore. I do pass faeces from the rectum. I was worried so saw my surgeon who is investigating rectocele/endocele. This problem only started in the last 6 mths. It has gotten so bad that I asked to have my bottom plugged up (or whatever they call that), but my surgeon doesnt wanna do that cos he would have to cut through my sexual organs and he said im too young for that (36 yrs). Its really sore and annoying. If you do try hypnosis, please blog and tell us how it was.

Hi Meddie. I'm seeing my psychologist on Wed. and find out if she has talked with her colleagues yet. I have spoken with a few nurses and also my primary to ask them if they felt there is any danger in stopping the urge when the mucus still comes out on occasion. They all felt there is no danger. I'll see the hernia surgeon this Friday and I'll ask him too. The urge and feeling that I'm leaking when actually nothing is happening is lots more frequent than the mucus. I'm really anxious to try the hypnosis. I find the cramping, urges to run to the toilet and the feeling like I am dripping soooooo annoying. I'll let you know how I make out.
