Pain after changing wafer

I don't know if this is the proper place to ask about this, but I'm going to try anyway.

I've been using Cavillon no-sting barrier wipes. They're a little sponge with not much moisture on them, but they do put a pretty good job. I received some Coloplast no-sting wipe samples. Last time I change the wafer, I used the samples with no problem. Last night, I went to change it again. After I was all done, I got a burning on one side of the stoma and felt like someone was stabbing me there. I didn't like changing the wafer right away, but I had no choice. I took it off, put on some healing powder and used the Cavillon this time. It was a lot better but still pretty sore, so I went right to bed to see if I could sleep it off. When I got up, the pain in that area was much better.

Now I have just the same abdominal pain I've been having, which I hope they'll be able to find the source of when I get my CT Scan tomorrow.

Has anyone else had a problem with barrier wipes causing this problem?

i know this is probably no use as you are used to Cavilon, but my stoma nurses prefer me not to use this as they say it can leave a residue which can make the bags harder to stick. They advised that I use the LBF wipes, but everyone else I know seems to use the Cavilon without a problem so I don't know. I hope that you can get your problem sorted. Take care, Jenny

Thanks, Jenny. I have no problem with the bags sticking. I've never heard of the LBF wipes, but I'll look into them. I just got some samples from ReliaMed, but right now I'm a little "gun shy".

The pain is much better today.

The problem I had was with the barrier wipes, not the adhesive remover. I was using their Smith&Nephew wipes when I first got my colostomy, but I found out they had been recalled. They were really good. I l do like the Cavillon, but I'm still trying to find if there is something better. Maybe I should just leave well enough alone.

I have used the "smith and Nephew" and "hollister" wipes, they were both good. I have heard though, that there can be a problem with some people not liking one or the another (allergies).
